The best thing for the animal you found would be to keep the animal at your home, as he or she is probably not far from their home.

Some pets are microchipped, which means the owners information can be easily found by “scanning” the pet for the imbedded chip. To have the animal scanned simply visit your local veterinary office where they will most likely scan the animal for free.

It’s a good idea to call ahead to make sure they are able to scan stray animals. If you are unsure about who your local Veterinarian is, simply check for a listing and phone number of those in your area.
